New DNN992 combines Internet-based content with in-vehicle connectivity in a seamless experience

LAS VEGAS – January 7, 2015 (SDG MEDIAWIRE) – Kenwood USA, producer of premium in-vehicle mobile electronics products, introduced the successor to its popular DNN991HD connected receiver at the 2015 International CES. The DNN992 improves upon last year’s model with updated mapping software by Garmin™, parking guides for a connected rear-view camera and better source multitasking.

“Our goal with the DNN series has been to lead the industry in bringing connected services safely to the driver,” said Tony Mercado, marketing manager for Kenwood. “Using our proprietary server, we can quickly deliver entertainment, communications and information to the DNN unit and employ the latest in voice, display and touch technology to let the driver interact while staying focused on the road.”

The DNN992 by Kenwood leverages the connected experience to provide users with safe, intuitive delivery of Web-based information. In addition to standard features offered by an in-dash radio, the DNN992 uses its Wi-Fi connection or broadband access via connected smartphone to deliver next-generation, drive-centric data. The built-in navigation system is bolstered with information from INRIX, including weather, dynamic traffic flow, fuel locations and pricing, and local search for amenities. In addition, the DNN992 features direct-access apps to play Internet-based content from iHeartRadio™ and YouTube.

The DNN992 keeps users safely connected to email, social media contacts and scheduled appointments. Built-in browsers work with a user’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, letting the user send and receive updates via voice.

But connectivity doesn’t apply only to Internet-based services. The double-DIN chassis with 7-inch capacitive touch screen accommodates a multitude of internal and add-on media sources. Connect up to two cameras (front and rear) to aid in maneuvering, and avoid obstacles when backing up with on-screen parking lines. The DNN992 is also SiriusXM-Ready and connects to the latest SiriusXM SXV300 Connect Vehicle Tuner (sold separately, subscription required), giving drivers access to SiriusXM® content via satellite. Built-in HD Radio™ gives the driver access to premium over-the-air content, while slots for CD/DVD and SD cards let them being their own media to the vehicle.

Dual USB ports enable direct connection of an iPod®, iPhone® or USB storage drive to play back and control selection of music. For a more immersive experience with the smartphone, the DNN992 includes an HDMI input that also supports MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) technology to give the user access to, and interaction with, compatible apps on select Android™ smartphones or the iPhone, such as Waze and TuneIn Radio®, through the multimedia receiver’s screen. The HDMI/MHL connection also allows video content on the smartphone to play on the DNN992.

The DNN992 delivers a premium audio experience from any connected or inbuilt source. Its 13-band equalizer and digital signal processor balance sound to the driver’s preference, and the Drive EQ+ function compensates for road noise by raising certain frequencies. Bluetooth functionality is infused with aptX®, a sound processing technology that restores audio frequencies lost in the transmission of wireless audio. For system expansion, three sets of high-voltage, pre-amplified outputs can connect to external front, rear and subwoofer amplifiers.

The DNN992 will ship in January with an MSRP of $1,400. For more information, visit kenwoodusa.com.
